Good to know before traveling in Colombia
Weather by altitude, not by season
Colombia has no seasons: the weather depends on altitude. The coast is hot all year round and Bogotá is cool. There are rainy and dry seasons that vary by region.
Domestic flights
Road distances are long because of the mountains. Flying is usually the most practical way to combine destinations: most domestic flights take one to two hours.
Currency and payments
The currency is the Colombian peso (COP). Cards are accepted in cities and hotels; for small towns, markets and tips it's best to carry cash.
